Lake Quassapaug is a beautiful place for small boat sailing. The lake is spring fed, rated as one of the cleanest lakes in Connecticut, and has a 5 mph speed limit on motor boats. All this makes a very pleasant place to sail and to learn to sail.
Adult Sailing Lessons
Adult sailing lessions are taught in sessions of four classes.
Sessions take place in June and July. Classes are either Thursday evenings from 5pm to 7pm, or Saturday mornings from 9am to 11am.
Make up lessons, due to bad weather or no wind will take place in August or as scheduled with the instructors.
Our US Sailing certified instructors will teach you how to rig the boats, the basics of sailing and boat handling.
Classes are taught in 420 sailboats. 420 Sailboats are 14 feet long (4.20 meters), are sailed by two people with two sails. 420's are very popular with high school and college racing teams.
PFDs (Lifejackets) are required. Participants are welcome to bring their own PFDs. QSC also has PFDs that are available for use. Participants should come with foot gear and clothing that can get wet. Bringing a change of clothes is recommended.
Clothing: Waterproof rain/wind type jacket if inclement weather is predicted, swim suit, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, dry change of clothes and towel.
Footwear: Surf shoes or sneakers that can get wet. Flip Flops or sandels are not appropriate.
Glasses: Participants who wear glasses should have a retainer strap for the glasses while sailing.
All participants must submit a Liability Waver. Please fill out form and bring it to your first class. Liability Waiver & Emergency Contact Form.
After registration, all participants will receive a copy of Learn Sailing Right! Beginning Sailing, along with instructions to begin some light pre-course reading that will supplement the lessons with background knowledge.
